Chrysler, ZF Reach Axle Deal

Marysville, Mich., Nov 18, 2008  -  Chrysler LLC and ZF Friedrichshafen AG today announced the formation of a new axle manufacturing alliance. The partnership will utilize Chrysler’s new Marysville (Mich.) Axle Plant to build three families of state-of-the-art axles for improved fuel efficiency. 

“This partnership gives Chrysler access to advanced axle technologies from a partner that is a leading worldwide supplier of driveline and chassis technology,” said Chrysler LLC President and Vice Chairman Tom LaSorda. “Advanced axle technologies are key to our powertrain offensive, aimed at improving the fuel efficiency of our products. And working with a partner allows us to reduce development costs and capital investment requirements. In the end, it’s the customer who wins. These axles promise better mileage, better quality and better refinement.”

Chrysler LLC Dealers Deliver Main Street Message to Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C., Nov 16, 2008  -  As the U.S. Congress considers support for the domestic automobile industry, a select group of Chrysler’s U.S. dealer network will visit Capitol Hill on Tuesday, November 18 and Wednesday, November 19 to discuss their concerns regarding the impact of the global financial and liquidity crisis in their communities across the country. The dealers will specifically voice their support for temporary financial assistance for the domestic auto industry.

Chrysler Recalls Dodge Charger and Magnum Police Vehicles

After receiving nine complaints, Chrysler has recalled 20,000 2007 Dodge Charger and Dodge Magnum police vehicles.

The problem is with the gear shift cable bracket in the steering column. The cable can detach from the bracket and potentialy show the vehicle in ‘park’ when it is still in ‘drive’.

Dodge dealers will add a redundant locking mechanism to the gearshift cable, beginning in Nov. 10.

Credit Crunch Still Hurting Car Sales

A deteriorating U.S. economy combined with an ongoing credit crunch is darkening the credit outlook for the auto finance market well into 2009, said Moody’s Investors Service in a report on Tuesday.

“The sector is clearly under severe stress,” said Curt Beaudouin, vice president and analyst at Moody’s. He noted increasing delinquencies and write-downs of uncollectable debt, higher loss severities due to slumping used-car prices, as well as shrinking new vehicle sales.
